Psalm 73:24 Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.
Insight on the Word
Psalms is filled with revelation about this life and that life which is to come. In this passage which is the sixty first prophecy in the book of Psalms, we are told of two wonderful blessings for the children of God.
1) “Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel.” The word “counsel” is translated from the Hebrew word “etsah” and means “advice, or by implication a plan.” That is: God guides His children with advice or with a plan. This plan is revealed within the pages of God’s Word the Bible. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” (Psalm 119:105) It is only as we walk in the principles and dictates of Scripture that we are successful in life. “Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.” (Joshua 1:7)
2) “and afterward receive me to glory.” Walking according to the counsel of the Lord here on this earth brings great success in the here and now. But an ever greater success awaits the child of God when this life is over. For the Psalmist promises that God will receive us to glory. In the New Testament Jesus Himself said: “…I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” (John 14:3)
Think about it. Here on this earth, following God’s counsel and plan for our lives, we prosper in all we do. And, when this life is ended we are confident that Jesus Himself will “receive me to glory.”
Speak the Word — When this life is over I will be received into glory! (Psalm 73:24)
