Psalm 121:8 The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
Insight on the Word
The Lord is interested in us and all that we do. Whether we go to work today, enjoy a hobby or just stay at home, God is watching over us, protecting us, and desires to bless us in all that we do. Even under the law there was blessing; how much more, today in this age of grace. “Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out” (Deuteronomy 28:6).
God’s blessing and protection are for those who follow in His footsteps. Those who transgress the laws of God are not protected for “the way of transgressors is hard” (Proverbs 13:15).
We are to begin each day seeking direction from the Lord. “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:6 ). We should not go about trying to establish our own agenda and goals, but seek God’s will in all that we do. “For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that” (James 4:15). As we receive God’s will and learn the way of God, we are to walk in obedience and be assured that God “preserveth the way of his saints” (Proverbs 2:8).
The word “preserve” in this passage comes from the Hebrew word “shamar” and means “to hedge about, to guard and to protect.” Imagine as you walk out this day God is guarding you. God is protecting you. He is all about you as a hedge of protection, and not this day only but “from this time forth, and even for evermore, The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in.”
