Insight on the Word
We often quote Philippians 4:19: “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” God does supply all our needs, but there is more as the Psalmist points out, He also promises to give us the desires of our heart as well!
In addition we are told that if we commit our “way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.” That is as we roll our lives over into His hands and faithful partnership with Him, He will bring to pass all our desires. Think about it. With the Lord supplying all our needs… granting our desires… and bringing to pass His Word in our lives… all of our problems are solved! What a great life the Lord has given us!
The Hebrew word for commit literally means “to roll some object on, upon, away, in, against, from, together, unto, or down.” We are to roll ourselves over on the Lord and to trust Him to take care of things. In doing this we subject out behavior to Him and remove things from our life that are a reproach to Him.
To commit your life to the Lord think of some things that He would have you do. Telling someone of the Love of Christ, caring for a shut-in neighbor; being a help to a wayward child, spending time in prayer, Bible study and going to church are all things worthy of our commitment. Also, there are things we should remove from our life: anger, fear, hatred, jealousness, greed, selfishness and anything that does not glorify God.
Living this “committed” life we will see all our problems solved, for God has promised: “Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”
Speak the Word — I am committed to the Lord, my problems are solved! (Psalm 37:5)
