Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Insight on the Word
The acknowledgement of God is the basis for success in life. It is the opposite of the fool who has “said in his heart, There is no God.” (Psalm 14:1) True wisdom begins, continues, and ends every work, purpose, and plan with God. Self-sufficiency and self-confidence have been the ruin of mankind ever since the fall. Man’s sin has been to live independently of God. True religion consists of full acknowledgement of God in all human affairs.
To acknowledge God is not only to recognize that He exist but to personally trust Him. To trust Him to the point that we follow Him, even above following our own mind and understanding. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5).
As we acknowledge God in life we are given a wonderful promise of God: “he shall direct thy paths.” The word “direct” is translated from the Hebrew word “yashar” and means “to be straight or even; to be right, pleasant, prosperous; and to be upright.” It is as if God “rightly divides” the many paths that lay before us showing us the way that is right, keeping us on the straight and narrow.
There is great blessing in following the Lord. Often Satan and his cohorts attempt to distract our minds, discourage our hearts, and disguise the way we are to walk. He offers a way that leads to destruction, heartache and pain. Sadly many take his path. But this is not the way of those who follow the Lord. As we trust God, acknowledging Him in all the ways of life, God Himself promises to make straight our path; to give us a right way to follow. A way that is pleasant, prosperous and upright! Truly “he shall direct thy paths.”
