Exodus 15:26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee.
Insight on the Word
Whether it be healing through doctors, medicine, good nutrition, exercise, or Divine healing that comes without the aid of anything or anyone but God, it all comes from God. Just like there are conditions we must meet in order to receive healing from our doctor, medicines, nutrition and exercise there are also conditions which must be met in order to receive Divine healing. Four of them are: 1) Diligently hear God’s voice; 2) Live righteous lives in His sight; 3) Give ear to His commandments; And 4) Keep all His statutes. No one can expect to be free from sickness unless he meets these conditions; but everyone can expect such blessings by meeting them (Exodus 20:6; 23:22-25; Psalm 91).
As to God putting disease upon people, God is responsible for disease only in the sense of making the law of sowing and reaping (Galatians 6:7-8); making penalties for sin (Deuteronomy 28:1-68); and permitting agencies with the power to execute the curse on man to have their way (John 10:10). If there had been no sin there would be no curse.
The reason given for no sickness on the obedient was, God is the healer of His people. The Hebrew word for “Lord” in this passage is Jehovah-Rapha that is Jehovah the Healer, or Jehovah your Physician.
Today if you are in need of healing, do what is right by your body concerning doctors, medicines, nutrition and exercise. And if you are still in need of healing rest assured that you can count on God to heal you! For God says: “I am the Lord that healeth thee.”
