Scripture Reading
Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Insight on the Word
A promise that is still true to those who are in Christ and who are faithful to God as the Philippians were. Many read this wonderful promise and fail to read the preceding verses. In fact Paul is making this promise to the Philippians, those who had supported him in ministry. (Philippians 4:14-18) When Paul was planting the Thessalonian church, he supported himself partly by working himself making tents, and the rest of his support had been supplied by the giving of the Philippians. Paul is not encouraging them to get a further gift from them, but to let them know, that their giving has been put on their account, and that in the day of Christ it will be rewarded.
This passage of Scripture is a clear reference that each man has an account in heaven. He is either storing up wrath by his deeds on record in heaven (Romans 2:5) or he is storing up reward (Romans 14:1-12; 1 Corinthians 3:11-15; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Galatians 3:6).
Imagine, we have the promise of all our needs being supplied when we support those who minister the Gospel. By our support, we actually get credited with the spreading of the Gospel message, and God Himself promises to supply all our need; not according to what we have at our disposal, but “according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
Today in whatever way possible (finances, an encouraging word, volunteering of our time, or prayers, etc.) make a concentrated effort to support a gospel worker.
Speak the Word — God supplies all of my need; because I help supply the need of His Gospel workers! (Philippians 4:19)
