Proverbs 12:21 There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.
Insight on the Word
Jesus told Peter: “Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat” (Luke 22:31). Indeed not only Peter but all of mankind, even you and I, are the targets of Satan’s snares (2 Timothy 2:26). For this reason Peter himself warned: “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). Jesus spoke of Satan as a thief who “cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy” (John 10:10) Indeed evil is all about us.
While the wicked fear evil, and rightly so, it is not so with the children of God, for God has promised to keep us from evil. Yes, evil abounds, but the just will overcome for: “greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4).
The ministry of Jesus Himself was to “destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8). And destroy the Devil’s works He did, for Jesus comforts us by saying: “be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Not only did Jesus bring us freedom from evil but He also gave us an overcoming and abundant life. “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).
As a child of God, live this day without fear. “A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee” (Psalm 91:7). In the face of destruction and despair know that: “The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul” (Psalm 121:7). When evil and plagues surround you keep your faith in God and continue to walk upright, knowing that He will keep you from all evil, for “there shall no evil happen to the just.”
